I may be a bit behind the times here but I’ve just been introduced to StumbleUpon. I’ve only been stumbling for a few days yet I seem to have spent hours on there already.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the concept StumbleUpon describes itself as a ‘discovery engine’. Creating an account only takes a minute and it’s even easier if you set up one through your Facebook; this also allows you to post your favourite stumbles on your Facebook wall.
First of all it will ask you about your interests, though I did find that I ticked pretty much every box, still it meant that my initial stumbles were nice and varied. Once it knows the subjects you’re interested it you can start ‘stumbling’. The search engine will then bring up random pages from the net that it thinks you will like. If you like the content then add it to your favourites, and by doing this the program will get used to what you like and your stumbles will get progressively more suitable.
I realised that after my first hundred stumbles that I’d become that annoying person that finds something vaguely interesting and has the need to show everyone. As a result my Facebook page has become clogged up with random links which people ignore, but I believe they’re missing out on some real gems. So I thought I’d share a few of my favourites with you guys, and maybe it’ll encourage you to start stumbling…
1) Pixels By Patrick Jean – This awesome two-minute film sees New York turn into a video game, definitely worth a watch.
2) Bad College Nostalgia – this one I can definitely relate to. It basically makes a funny out of all those annoying habits that your lecturers have.
3) Cat Hugs Baby Kitten – Had to stick one in here. I dare anyone not to find this cute.
4) 11 facts I learned about movies – all so true.
5) 19 Hilarious Harry Potter Comics – all you potter fans out there will appreciate this.
6) The Science of Popular Music or The Four Chord Song – this is very clever, takes a minute or so to get into it properly but it’s definitely worth five minutes of your day.
7) Homemade Porsche Car – Step by step guide to building your own Porshe, genius! I won’t post pictures as it’ll spoil it…
Hope you appreciated these little bits of cyber magic xD

You definitely should make an account. I’ve only posted some of the random, amusing things that it brought up for me here. It’s brought up loads of pages about science and technology which are absolutely amazing but I thought I would save some of those for future posts.
Let me know if you stumble across anything post-worthy
